Calling the flydubai incident a dangerous terrorist act, UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash lauded Indian co-pilot Smit Machchhar’s critical role in preventing an air disaster by describing him as a true hero. The remarks suggest that the UAE is not going to downplay the attack, while also serving as the first official acknowledgement by the UAE government of the remarkable fightback by Machchhar against his Omani co-pilot under extreme pressure.Gargash’s comments, which came in the middle of the probe to ascertain if the incident was indeed linked to terrorism, followed the announcement by Israeli ambassador to India Reuven Azar that Israel will suitably honour the Indian pilot.“Smit Machchhar deserves every bit of appreciation, for he embodied the meaning of courage and responsibility in the face of a dangerous terrorist act and a potential disaster,” said Gargash in a post in Arabic on X.
